In First quarter of 2012, Sony released its best mobile phones, the XPERIA NXT series, having three different models, XPERIA S, XPERIA P and XPERIA U. None of the three is a low end model, but have different specifications according to their prices. What these DUAL CORES have got? Do their specifications justify their price tags? Or it’s only for their looks…. Let’s have a look at their specs .

All of the three have nearly same shapes but have different dimension.

      XPERIA S       XPERIA P       XPERIA U
128 x 64 x 10.6 mm 122 x 59.5 x 10.5 mm 112 x 54 x 12 mm

and too have different body material, XPERIA S and XPERIA U  is made of matte plastic having a toughened glass coating, while XPERIA P have aluminum uni-body.

Which Sony Xperia NXT phone should I buy? . Phones, Mobile phones, Sony, Sony Xperia S, Sony Xperia U, Sony Xperia P, Android, MWC2012 2

Most of the front part of  all three models are well occupied by high quality LCD, some of the sources say its about 90% – 95%. Below the screen there are three capacitive touch buttons of each model. They have different LCD dimensions too.

      XPERIA S       XPERIA P       XPERIA U
720 x 1280 pixels, 4.3 inches 540 x 960 pixels 4.0 inches 480 x 854 pixels, 3.5 inches

All of them have LED-backlit LCD, capacitive touchscreen, with multi touch sensors, XPERIA S is having multi-touch up to 10 fingers, which is a big mark for Sony. on the other hand XPERIA P and XPERIA U have multi-touch up to 4 fingers. All of them have Sony BRAVIA engine, which gives Sony an exceptional display quality. they  have scratch resistant glass protection too.

Sadly there is no slot for micro SD card, that is no option for memory expansion, all three of them have different internal storage capacities.

      XPERIA S       XPERIA P       XPERIA U
    32 GB storage               16 GB
(13 GB user available)
               8 GB
(4 GB user available)

32GB and 13GB are considerable, but now days 4GB doesn’t make any sense,  and pushes XPERIA U backward.

This the department where Sony is really best, all of the three are pretty decent camera phones,

      XPERIA S       XPERIA P       XPERIA U
                12 MP,
4000×3000 pixels,
LED flash, video light
1080 p video rec.
continuous autofocus
               8 MP,
3264×2448 pixels
LED flash, video light
1080 p video rec.
continuous autofocus
                   5 MP,
2592 x 1944 pixels
LED flash, video light
720 p video rec.
continuous autofocus

There are only few handsets having 12MP camera and XPERIA S is one of the, with a good still and video quality, having an exmor sensor Sony’s camera are doing great job in low light conditions. there is also a pinch of 3D in XPERIA NXT series (3D sweep panorama). Having Geo-tagging, touch focus, face and smile detection gives a feeling of professional camera in a cell phone.

XPERIA NXT series is loaded with ANDROID 2.3 (Gingerbread ), and is promised to be upgraded to 4.0 (ice-cream sandwich).

Here are short video reviews about user interface of XPERIA S, P and U

All three of them have dual core processors, but they are of different clock speed

     XPERIA S       XPERIA P        XPERIA U

Qualcomm MSM8260 Snapdragon

NovaThor U8500

NovaThor U8500

Dual-core 1.5 GHz

Dual-core 1 GHz  Cortex-A9 Dual-core 1 GHz Cortex-A9

Adreno 220

  Mali-400MP    Mali-400MP

NXT series is also certified for PlayStation by Sony, which really needs a great graphic works, in which XPERIA NXT series is performing well. According  to different benchmark test it is seen that Mali-400 performs a bit better than Adreno 220. XPERIA S and XPERIA P have 1GB of RAM, where as XPERIA U has 512MB.

All of the three have got standard Li-ion battery,

1750 mAh

1305 mAh

1320 mAh

Standby time Up to 450 h (2G) / Up to 420 h (3G) Up to 470 h (2G) / Up to 475 h (3G) Up to 260 h (2G) / Up to 472 h (3G)
Talk time Up to 7 h 30 min (2G) / Up to 8 h 30 min (3G) Up to 6 h (2G) / Up to 5 h (3G) Up to 6 h 36 min (2G) / Up to 5 h 36 min (3G)
Music play Up to 25 h Up to 80 h Up to 45 h

Though XPERIA S has large battery than XPERIA P and XPERIA U, but it’s large LCD and big processor, brought its standby and talk time near XPERIA P AND U. One of the main disadvantages in XPERIA S and XPERIA P is their non-removable battery, yes you have to open the screws to replace your battery, but XPERIA U do have replaceable battery.

All the three phones have satisfying benchmark results according to their specifications. Now after having a look on above specifications, we have to choose that which of the model is justifying price with its specifications.

XPERIA S is of around  $450,

XPERIA P of   $315 and

XPERIA U  $250.99

XPERIA U is straight out of my list as it has only 4GB of storage and without memory card slot, having less RAM, small screen size and 5MP of camera. An android phone with only 4GB of storage is of no use.

Now it’s between XPERIA S AND XPERIA U. Though XPERIA S is really at top in terms of specification, but  one can  easily have a quad core in this price tag.  If one is interested in buying a high megapixel phone, then he/she should go for XPERIA S. A smart phone should be of balance size having a good display, good looks and well built body and justify its price. We think among XPERIA NXT series, XPERIA P is the best choice to buy, it has got nice comfortable size which can be handled easily, and could b carried any where in pocket, have nice aluminum body, large display, 8MP of camera wit 1080 video recording 1GB of RAM and 13GB a considerable storage capacity.
