LIVERPOOL VS MANCHESTER UNITED: Match Review:
Robin Van Persie’s late penalty earned the victory for Manchester United against 10 men Liverpool.
The game was ended in controversial circumstances. The home side started pretty well and dominated the 1st half in terms of possession and chances, Gerrard had a pretty good opportunity in the early minutes from the corner, which was blocked by Robin Van Persie. Manchester United were exposed in the Mid field area where Giggs was not giving enough support to Michael Carrick who played the best game for Manchester United in the 1st half and probably in the game. They were continuously losing the possession in the mid filed area, but Liverpool suffered the 1st blow when Referee Mike Halsey showed straight red card to Liverpool Midfielder Jonjo Shelvey for his two footed challenge on Johnny Evans in the 39th minute.
But despite going a men down Liverpool continued their dominance and created some chances, but they were not enough for even testing Manchester United Goalkeeper Andres Lindegaard. The 1st half ended as goal less. Both sides made Half time substitutions, Sir Alex Ferguson, without any doubt realized that the presence of Paul Scholes was missing in the midfield, so he brought in Paul Scholes for Nani, who was poor in the 1st half and shifted Ryan Giggs to the left flank and Scholes to give support to Carrick in the central area of the midfield. Liverpool introduced another youngster Suso for their new signing Fabio Borini.
Liverpool had a wonderful start of the 2nd half with Steven Gerrard scoring just after 51 seconds of the 2nd half with a brilliant left footed volley.
Manchester United played a decent game in the 2nd half, but that was not enough to exploit the men advantage. But Liverpool’s resilience came to the when Valencia stole the ball between Agger and Johnson and galloped to Liverpool’s box when he was controversially brought down by recovering Glenn Johnson in the 80th and refree Mike Halsey pointed towards the spot kick, replays suggest that there was not enough collision and Valencia went to the ground very easily. Manchester United missed three penalties in their last 3 games but this time Robin Van Persie successfully converted from the spot kick in the 82nd min. Pepe Reina guessed right and dived towards his right and managed to get a hand on the ball but his touch was not enough to stop the ball from going into the net. Liverpool’s misery further increased when Agger got injured and was substituted in a stretcher.
The match ended with the score 1-2 and inally after 5 visits Manchester United managed to earn 3 points at Anfield.
