Manchester United didn’t start their season well and lost 1-0 to Everton in their opening fixture at Goodson Park, but they have secured maximum points from their last four games and have the joint best attacking record with 12 goals so far in their last four games.
Manchester United fans had some very good and very bad news during this week regarding injuries. The bad news is Manchester United’s skipper Nemanja Vidic is out of action for at least 2 months due to knee injury. The good news is that their last season’s top scorer Wayne Rooney is back in action after being sidelined for over a month after sustaining a horrible cut to his right thigh against Fulham, he started against Newcastle in midweek and played 76 minutes. It’s not confirmed that Sir Alex will give him start against Tottenham or not, but he will be surely in the squad. But fans will be hoping to see him starting, as Manchester United fans can’t wait to see Premier League’s top scorers of last season in action together, another good news for Manchester United fans is that Fletcher is also back in action for first team and played full match against Newcastle. Smalling and Phil Jones are still out due to toe and knee injury respectively. Ashley Young who scored brace against Tottenham at White Hart Lane is still out due to knee injury but Manchester United will be looking to continue their excellent record at Old Trafford against Tottenham as the 19 times champions won their last 6 meetings at Old Trafford.
Spurs also didn’t start their season well with securing only 3 points in their first three games, they started their campaign losing 2-1 away to New Castle then managed to get a point against West Brom and Norwich at White Hart Lane but they have managed to get 2 successive victories under their new boss Andres Villas Boas. Goal scoring is not a problem for spurs so far this season as they have already scored 8 goals in 5 games, but the thing which is the concern for them is their defensive record as they have conceded 6 goals in 5 games without keeping a clean sheet.
Tottenham’s Left Back Assou Ekotto will be a doubt for match as he has not fully recovered from knee injury. Scott Parker and Younus Kaboul will surely be absentees’ due to Achilles and knee injury respectively. Sandro is likely to start in midfield along with Moussa Dembele, and Bale and Lennon on wings. Adebayour is still a doubt for the match so Defoe who is in great goal scoring form and have already socred 4 in his last 5 games will start with Dempsey supporting him. Spurs fans are yet to see their new goal keeper Hugo Lloris in action and they might not see him again as AVB will prefer to give start to experienced Brad Freidel.
Spurs have not defeated Manchester United at Old Trafford since December, 1989 but their ambitions will be high but Manchester United will be eager to continue their great winning run and extend it to 5 in a row.
